Greek anarchist group smashes windows at Novartis office in Athens
Greek self-proclaimed anarchists threw paint and smashed windows at the entrance of the Athens headquarters of Swiss drugmaker Novartis on Sunday, police said. About 30 people were involved in the attack at 0515 local time (0315 GMT), a police official said. In a statement published on the Internet, the Rouvikonas group said the attack was linked to a probe into allegations of bribery by the drugmaker to doctors and public officials.

A massive Windows hack has swept through Europe, and is starting to reach the US
Since early Friday morning, reports have been coming in about a massive ransomware attack sweeping through Windows PCs in Europe. The National Health Service in England has had numerous hospitals and doctor's offices hit, and a number of private companies have reported a similar attack.
According to reports from some companies, systems in the US are starting to see the attack, and IT departments are urging employees to shut down any "non-essential" systems to avoid infection.

The virus is a form of ransomware known as "WannaCry." It uses an exploit in Windows to spread from computer to computer, which explains the rapid worldwide spread. The vulnerability it exploits, known as "EternalBlue," was patched by Microsoft in March, but the update has clearly not been universally adopted by users.
The exploit initially hit Russia, Taiwan and Spain the hardest, according to security companies. Since then, it appears to be spreading around the globe at speed. The hack on the NHS in England is the most high-profile of the successful attacks, but research firm Kaspersky has recorded 45,000 incidents, and counting.
Companies in the US have started seeing the attack appear on some machines. FedEx issued a statement, saying that "like many other companies, FedEx is experiencing interference with some of our Windows-based systems caused by malware. We are implementing remediation steps as quickly as possible." Reports suggest that it originated in FedEx's system in the UK, and workers in the US were told to shut down any non-critical systems.
The exploit itself was first widely known when it was leaked as part of a trove of NSA documents. The exploit became widely known at that point, and Microsoft issued a patch. The problem is that many individual users and organizations don't update Windows regularly, which creates a window of opportunity where hackers know of a vulnerability, and some users remain unprotected.

On Tuesday morning, Microsoft will host a product launch event in New York City where CEO Satya Nadella is expected to introduce the company’s answer to Google’s Chromebook. The event will focus on education, so we don’t expect to see any new Surface tablets or additions to the Surface Book line, but new devices and software should make an appearance.

Of all the announcements rumored for today’s event, the new version of Windows might be the most intriguing. Back in January, something by the name of Windows 10 Cloud was found listed alongside Pro and Enterprise in an Insider test build. Much like Chrome OS, this edition of the Windows 10 operating system is expected to only run apps from the Windows Store, which would make it simpler to use and wouldn’t require nearly as much power from the computer.
In addition to Windows 10 Cloud (or Windows 10 S, or whatever the company ends up calling it), Microsoft is also expected to unveil a Chromebook competitor or possibly even a whole line of computers running on Windows 10 Cloud. Just last week a leaked document revealed the minimum specs for a device running on the new OS: quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, battery larger than 40 Whr and optional pen and touch support.
With its education focus, the event will also presumably include a few segments dedicated to software as well, including the Office suite, OneNote and even Minecraft, which has taken on a life of its own in the world of education. Regarding Office, there isn’t currently a full-fledged version of the popular software on the Windows Store, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see Microsoft remedy this at today’s event.
An education-centric event might not sound very exciting on paper, but potential use cases for the new devices and the new version of Windows stretch far beyond high schools and college campuses. If you’re interested in affordable, easy-to-use hardware and software, you’re going to want to tune in.
