Two Sherpa guides killed on EverestTwo Sherpa guides working on Everest were confirmed dead Tuesday, bringing the death toll on the world’s highest peak this spring climbing season to five. The two guides — both ethnic Sherpas from the valleys that surround Everest — were working on opposite sides of the mountain, which straddles the border between Nepal and Tibet. Experienced guide Damai Sarki Sherpa, 37, fell more than 60 metres into a crevasse on Monday as he was helping a foreign climber to a rescue helicopter on the Nepal side of the mountain.

Two Sherpa climbers set new summit records on EverestBy Gopal Sharma KATHMANDU (Reuters) – A Nepali mountaineer climbed Mount Everest on Wednesday for a 22nd time while a female climber made it to the top for the ninth time, each setting a new record on the world’s highest mountain, officials said. Ang Kami Sherpa’s 22nd ascent to the summit created a new record for the most visits to the peak of Everest. The 48-year-old reached the 8,850-meter (29,035-foot) summit via the Southeast Ridge route, accompanied by 13 other climbers including his clients, Tourism Department official Gyanendra Shrestha said from the base camp.
