The law changes an unlawful possession of marijuana statute into a violation that’s similar to a traffic ticket, instead of a criminal charge. The law also requires that records tied to low-level marijuana cases be automatically sealed and creates a process for expungement.

HPV vaccination is intended to prevent cervical cancer and abnormal cells that can lead to cancer, but how well it’s working among North American women remains unclear. “Both HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening are important to further reduce the incidence, morbidity, and mortality of cervical cancer,” senior study author Dr. Huiming Yang from Alberta Health Services in Calgary told Reuters Health by email.

Canada reduces waiting period for gay men to donate bloodCanada on Monday loosened requirements for gay men who want to donate blood, reducing the compulsory period of sexual abstinence from five years to one year. Health Canada said it made the change after blood operators Canadian Blood Services and Hema-Quebec asked for the reduction and presented data showing that the new policy would not affect the safety of the blood supply. The five-year waiting period to donate blood was imposed in 2013 and prior to that, gay men were not allowed to donate.

Seaman (Reuters Health) – Training staffers at reproductive health clinics to educate women about birth control options ultimately cut pregnancy rates in half, according to a new study. "Our impetus for doing this study is that unintended pregnancy has been extremely high in the U.S. for decades," said Cynthia Harper, the study's lead author from the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health at the University of California, San Francisco. "The unwanted pregnancies are concentrated among young women 18 to 25," she said.
