Richard Branson slams Donald Trump after hurricanes: 'Whole world knows climate change is real'

Richard Branson slams Donald Trump after hurricanes: 'Whole world knows climate change is real'Virgin boss Richard Branson has hit out at Donald Trump after Hurricane Irma partially destroyed his home on the British Virgin Islands. Donald Trump, who has previously denied climate change, has planned to withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement, which aims to reduce the impact of global warming on Earth. Mr Branson criticised the President's stance in an interview on CNN, where he was asked about the impact of climate change on hurricanes. Richard Branson on Necker Island Credit: Virgin.com/Virgin.com "Look, you can never be 100 per cent sure about links" he replied, "but the scientists have said the storms are going to get more and more and more intense and more and more often." He continued: "We've had four storms within a month, all far greater than have ever, ever, ever happened in history. "Sadly, I think this is the start of things to come." Hitting out at Donald Trump, he continued:"Look, climate change is real. Ninety-nine per cent of scientists know it's real. "The whole world knows it's real except for maybe one person in the White House." Richard Branson launches aid relief campaign for the British Virgin Islands 02:33 The British billionaire and adventurer took refuge in the wine cellar of his home on his private island while it suffered a direct hit from the Category 5 Hurricane Irma. "As you can see from the photos, much of the buildings and vegetation on Necker has been destroyed or badly damaged," Sir Richard wrote from Puerto Rico, where he was mobilising aid efforts  for the British Virgin Islands and wider Caribbean. "We felt the full force of the strongest hurricane ever in the Atlantic Ocean. But we are very fortunate to have a strong cellar built into Necker’s Great House and were very lucky all of our teams who stayed on Island during the storm are safe and well." He has now called for a "Marshall Plan" to rebuild the British Virgin Islands in the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Irma and fears of further damage by Hurricane Maria. GOP congressman isn't sure how to fix health care fiasco, but knows it involves sexism and a duel

GOP congressman isn't sure how to fix health care fiasco, but knows it involves sexism and a duelWith the GOP health care bill on life support in the senate, lawmakers are eager to find someone to blame.  One Texas lawmaker focused his frustrations with “some female senators from the Northeast" and tacked on some beyond out-dated and sexist thoughts in a radio interview. In an interview on "1440 Keys" Friday, Texas Rep. Blake Farenthold spoke about how he wanted to handle the fallout from failing to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. SEE ALSO: Jimmy Kimmel tweets update on 3-month-old son, calls for action on healthcare "If it was a guy from south Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style,” he said to talk show host Bob Jones.  Listen to his comments below around the 27-minute mark. Sure sounds like he really wants to duel the GOP health care bill's opponents, but only the female ones. He can't, though, because they are women.  I can't see Lisa Murkowski losing a duel with Blake Farenthold tbh, even if her weapon jammed — southpaw (@nycsouthpaw) July 24, 2017 He won't duel women because he knows he'd get shot.  t.co/RHnSd3tKpR — Stephanie Renee (@Steph56Renee) July 24, 2017 Cool, that's a normal response in 2017 to a political fail. And no reason to include male senators. That'd be silly. He could have challenged Rand Paul to a duel. Didn’t. t.co/J1Z2N9xIqK — Sam Stein (@samstein) July 24, 2017 Sens. Susan Collins, Shelley Moore Capito and Lisa Murkowski came out against Mitch McConnell's bid to straight repeal the ACA, but Sens. Mike Lee and Jerry Moran, both men, effectively sank the proposed replacement bill. And Rand Paul was never on board. So color Farenthold confused about a number of things. Farenthold is blaming the female senators for stalling the bill, but he's not OK with taking this outside. That would not be appropriate or ladylike. If they were men they might be idiots like Rep Farenthold apparently is t.co/ekd4KbPNfH — Howard Dean (@GovHowardDean) July 24, 2017 Farenthold, for the record, was once photographed wearing ducky pajamas with scantily-clad women. He at one time owned the domain name blow-me.org. And he was sued by a former staffer for alleged gender discrimination and for making an uncomfortable work environment. To recap: Farenthold thinks a man-to-man duel would be the best way to settle health care policy and 2017 gets more ridiculous by the day.
UPDATE
5:01 p.m. PT: Sen. Collins responded to Farenthold's comments and noted that during her 20 years in the Senate "nobody had ever suggested a duel." First time for everything. Except Farenthold wasn't really suggesting a duel with her since she's a woman and all. A gigantic, bloody dead thing just washed up in Indonesia and nobody knows what it is

A gigantic, bloody dead thing just washed up in Indonesia and nobody knows what it is

The sea still holds great mysteries for mankind. A few examples of this are the peculiar disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle, the origins of the Baltic Sea Anomaly, and whatever the heck just washed up on the shore of the Indonesian island of Seram. The massive 50-foot-long creature, long since deceased, is already decaying, and nobody can seem to offer a definitive answer as to exactly what it is… or was.

The discovery, reported by the Jakarta Globe, was made by a resident of the island who, after spotting it in the dark of night, initially thought the creature was a stranded boat. Now, the dead animal has become a bit of a local celebrity, as residents stop by to catch a glimpse of whatever it might be.

https://www.facebook.com/mbs.lessiputy/posts/1497352876949760

In the initial report, the creature is said to be a giant squid, and notes that local government is being asked to deal with its remains. However, others have suggested that it's not a squid at all, but a dead whale which has grown unidentifiable due to decay. In terms of size, both sperm whales and giant squids would seem to match, as both can reach similar lengths, though if the squid theory proves true it would be a particularly large specimen.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR9S6XWG-I0

Videos shot by locals seem to support the idea that the rotting corpse is actually that of a whale, as large bones appear to be visible among the remains. Whatever it is, it's huge, dead, and gross.

Comcast knows you’ll pay anything for good Wi-Fi

Comcast knows you’ll pay anything for good Wi-FiA new survey commissioned by Comcast has ranked apartment-dweller's need for good internet, relative to other niceties like basic hygiene. The conclusion seems to be that good Wi-Fi and high-speed internet are viewed as being the most critical.

Comcast probably commissioned this survey to show how relevant its brand is to millennials or something, but the only actual truth to be found is this: Comcast knows that you will put up with basically anything to get good internet, so it's going to squeeze you for every last penny.

The survey polled 2015 building managers and developers in the US about what features are the most important for prospective renters. A majority (59%) had either Wi-Fi access or fast internet as the most important feature, comfortably beating out a washer-dryer in unit as the must-have.

This isn't so much a statement on the value of technology as it is a stunning indictment of broadband technology in the US. In a supposedly technology-literate, competitive, first-world country, access to the internet should be a given. But thanks to the oligopoly of cable companies that control access to the internet with very little regional competition, you're often left with little or no choice of cable providers. That means that if Verizon or Comcast only choose to supply your building with a 10Mbps, you're out of luck.

So really, this survey just confirms to Comcast an important fact about its customers: it doesn't matter how bad the customer service is or if it flat-out calls its customers idiots: you don't have any choice and you need internet, so pucker up, lucky consumers.

NEAR TAL AFAR — On the rolling hills of the battlefield near Tal Afar in northern Iraq, fighters belonging to the armed brigades known as the Popular Mobilization Forces [PMF], made up of mostly Shiite tribal members, hustle to and from a front-line base confronting forces of the Islamic State. The city was once held up as an example of tribal unity between Shiite and Sunni Muslims after it was liberated from al-Qaida by American troops commanded by then Army Col. H.R. McMaster.
