Attacker stabs 8 at popular Jordanian tourist site
A young man from a Palestinian refugee camp on Wednesday stabbed eight people, including four foreign tourists and their tour guide, at a popular archaeological site in northern Jordan, security officials said. The suspect’s family identified him as Mustafa Abu Tuameh. “Today he told his mother that he has only 35 piasters (50 cents) and he was going out and might not come back,” said an uncle, Younis Abu Amrah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had to step in on Wednesday to prevent tensions with Jordan spiralling into a brawl between two lawmakers who agreed to meet on the border. Oren Hazan, from Netanyahu’s Likud party, had accepted a challenge from Jordanian MP Yahya al-Saud to meet near the main crossing between the two countries on Wednesday morning, with fears of a fistfight. Hazan told military radio he approached the border but did not cross on Netanyahu’s orders.

By Suleiman Al-Khalidi AMMAN (Reuters) – One Jordanian was killed and two people, a Jordanian and an Israeli, were wounded in a shooting incident on Sunday in a building inside the Israeli embassy complex in Jordan’s capital Amman, police said. The two Jordanians, working for a furniture firm, had entered the embassy compound before the shooting, the police said in a statement, adding that the dead man was killed by a gunshot and the two wounded men had been rushed to hospital. Israel has imposed a ban on reporting the incident and has made no public comment.
