North Korea's Kim inspects new submarine, signals possible ballistic missile developmentNorth Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected a large newly built submarine, state news agency KCNA reported on Tuesday, potentially signaling continued development of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) program. Kim inspected the operational and tactical data and combat weapon systems of the submarine that was built under “his special attention”, and will be operational in the waters off the east coast, KCNA said. KCNA said the submarine’s operational deployment was near.

Inter-American Development Bank leaves China in Venezuela rowThe Inter-American Development Bank said Friday its annual meeting would exit China after the United States led objections to Beijing’s refusal to grant a visa to the Venezuelan representative backed by Washington. The bank, which provides development funding for Latin America and in which Washington holds 30 percent of voting power, said it would no longer gather in the southwestern city of Chengdu from March 28 to 31 in what would have been its first annual meeting in China. The decision marks a two-front victory for the United States which is trying to oust Venezuela’s leftist President Nicolas Maduro and to reduce Chinese influence in Latin America.

Ford to invest $  740 million in Detroit train station, city development projectFord aims to turn the building into a campus of offices for up to 5,000 tech workers and software engineers focused on self-driving vehicles and ancillary technologies and services. The second largest U.S. automaker based in Dearborn, Michigan, about 10 miles from Detroit, announced the project in June, but had not previously disclosed costs until a community meeting on Tuesday. The company said Tuesday in a statement it is “working with federal, state and local economic development groups and officials, seeking at least $ 250 million in tax or other incentives to support the development of the five Corktown sites Ford has purchased.” Ford said total investment in the development of the train station and developing 45 acres of vacant land will cost approximately $ 740 million over the next four years.

Genocea stops pneumonia vaccine development after study fails

(Reuters) – Drug developer Genocea Biosciences Inc said it was suspending the development of a vaccine for pneumonia-causing bacteria after it failed to significantly reduce infection in a mid-stage study. The company’s shares fell 34 percent to $ 4.75 in premarket trading. Genocea said it was dropping the development of the vaccine, GEN-004, from its near-term plans to focus on its lead drug – a treatment for genital herpes.
