EU hopes US will rethink choice to pull out of climate pact
The European Union has voiced regret at the U.S. government’s decision to pull out of the Paris climate agreement and expressed hopes that one of the world’s biggest CO2 emitters will backpedal on its decision and rejoin. Despite the U.S. departure, Andreeva added that the 28-member bloc will continue working with various U.S.-based entities and stakeholders who remain committed to the deal. “The Paris agreement has strong foundations and is here to stay.
Colt to stop making AR-15 rifles, weapon of choice in US mass shootings
Legendary US gun manufacturer Colt has said it will no longer produce the AR-15, blaming market forces rather than the semi-automatic rifle’s role in some of the country’s worst mass shootings. “Over the last few years, the market for modern sporting rifles has experienced significant excess manufacturing capacity,” said the company’s chief executive Dennis Veilleux in a statement released on Thursday. For that reason, “we believe there is adequate supply for modern sporting rifles for the foreseeable future,” he said, noting that his firm would continue to make assault rifles for the US military and law enforcement agencies, as well as its world-famous revolvers.

Pence spoke at the Faith and Freedom BBQ, an annual fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan, one of the more conservative members of South Carolina’s congressional delegation.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday that EU leaders could provoke a crisis if they did not take into account the views of the European Parliament when choosing the next head of the EU executive. This wouldn’t be good for the work of the Commission in the next five years,” she told reporters after leaders failed to settle on a name during their summit. Merkel also said an agreement on top jobs should be reached before the new European Parliament meets for a first time on July 2.
Factbox – Brexit multiple choice again: How will UK parliament's indicative votes work?
The first phase of so-called indicative votes held on March 27 did not show majority support for any options, but lawmakers hope a second round, likely on a narrower range of options, could see parliament coalesce behind a way forward. Since the last round of votes, May’s deal has been rejected for a third time. Last week, speaker John Bercow selected eight Brexit options to be put to a vote, from a list of 16 proposals put forward by lawmakers.
