Fox News Contributor Causes Scene When She Names Alleged Whistleblower on Air

Fox News Contributor Causes Scene When She Names Alleged Whistleblower on AirFox News contributor Mollie Hemingway caused a scene on Sunday morning when she purposely named the alleged whistleblower at the center of the impeachment inquiry against President Trump, seemingly breaking the network’s policy of identifying the person.Amid a concerted effort by Trump’s allies to publicly out the whistleblower who filed the complaint about Trump’s infamous July 25 call with the Ukrainian president, right-wing media outlets have touted an online report purportedly sharing the identity of the person. Mainstream media outlets and social media platforms, meanwhile, have refrained from spreading the person’s name.Fox News had reportedly also instructed its employees to not name the alleged whistleblower. CNN reported that the network had instructed staffers that it had not "independently confirmed [the] name or identification of the anonymous whistleblower." Additionally, a network executive informed production staffers to “NOT fulfill any video or graphic requests” surrounding the whistleblower’s identity. We reached out to Fox News for comment, but did not hear back by time of publication.During Sunday’s broadcast of Fox News media analysis show MediaBuzz, Hemingway—who is also the senior editor of right-wing website The Federalist—took part in a panel discussion on whether or not the press should reveal the alleged whistleblower’s name and identity. After noting that the New York Times had provided a lot of identifying details on its report about the whistleblower, Hemingway went on to point to the online article naming the person while explaining that the whistleblower’s name’s “already out there.”“We could be talking about this reporting and talking about whether that’s accurate reporting or not,” Hemingway added. “So I feel a little confused why we are pretending it hasn’t already been reported.”Host Howard Kurtz, clearly startled, immediately shot back that he didn't know if that person was actually the whistleblower. Former Clinton adviser Philipe Reines, who was also on the panel, said that this “might be the first time that the name has been mentioned on Fox News, and not by a Fox News reporter.”Reines, however, is incorrect. While Hemingway is the first paid Fox employee to name the whistleblower on air, during a segment last week with Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner, conservative radio host Lars Larson blurted out the name. Faulkner, for her part, didn’t react at all or push back in him identifying the person. Larson would later justify his actions by saying the “American people deserve to know the name of the man making the accusation that the Democrats hope to use to remove an American president.”“I don’t know whether this is actually the person or not and I don’t want to speculate about that,” Kurtz, who has previously said outing the whistleblower would send a “chilling message” to other whistleblowers, went on to state. “But there have been a few conservative outlets and commentators who have floated that name.”Hemingway concluded by claiming it is “clearly wrong” for media organizations and tech platforms like Facebook to say that “you’re not allowed to talk about what’s reported out there,” adding that the person’s name “has been reported.”Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. Lindsey Graham blames press after Donald Trump causes UK ambassador’s resignation

Lindsey Graham blames press after Donald Trump causes UK ambassador’s resignationLindsey Graham blamed the press for Kim Darroch’s sudden resignation as the UK ambassador to the US shortly after Donald Trump angrily announced he would no longer work with the foreign official.Mr Darroch announced his resignation from the post on Wednesday morning after the president called him “pompous” and “stupid” in a series of tweets. The president’s Twitter attacks followed leaked memos that Mr Darroch sent to the US about Mr Trump, in which the UK ambassador described his administration as “uniquely dysfunctional” and “inept.”Announcing his resignation on Wednesday, Mr Darroch said it had become “impossible” to remain in the ambassador position after his public row with Mr Trump. Reports indicated that decision also had to do with Boris Johnson — the likely successor to Prime Minister Theresa May — and his failure to defend the ambassador amid his confrontation with the president. Mr Graham’s statement on the developments made no mention of the president’s quarrel with Mr Darroch, however. Rather, the Republican senator appeared to attack the press for covering the context within the leaked memos, describing the news cycle as “a good example of selective media coverage of an issue.”“Kim Darroch did an outstanding job as ambassador and sorry to see he has resigned his post,” Mr Graham tweeted on Wednesday.“He got a raw deal from press,” the senator added. Mr Graham then posted a screenshot of a reported leaked memo in which Mr Darroch seemingly wrote about the president’s shot at re-election: “Trump may emerge from the flames, battered but intact, like Schwarzenegger in the final scenes of the Terminator.” > Kim Darroch did an outstanding job as Ambassador and sorry to see he has resigned his post. > > He got a raw deal from press.> > — Lindsey Graham (@LindseyGrahamSC) > > July 10, 2019The ambassador “always understood the strength of President Trump,” he added, saying Mr Darroch “referred to [Trump] as the ‘Terminator’ who is indestructible and will most likely re-elected.”The president lambasted Mr Darroch after the leaks were published in global news outlets, telling reporters on Sunday: “The ambassador has not served the UK well, I can tell you that.”“We are not big fans of that man and he has not served the UK well,” he continued. “So I can understand it, and I can say things about him but I won’t bother.”Mr Trump then called the ambassador “wacky,” a “very stupid guy” and “a pompous fool” in a series of tweets.“Tell him the USA now has the best Economy & Military anywhere in the World, by far and they are both only getting bigger, better and stronger,” he wrote, adding, “Thank you, Mr. President!”

Beto O’Rourke: ‘Remain In Mexico’ Asylum Policy Is ‘Inhumane,’ Causes ‘Suffering and Death’

Beto O’Rourke: ‘Remain In Mexico’ Asylum Policy Is ‘Inhumane,’ Causes ‘Suffering and Death’Beto O'Rourke labeled the Trump administration's “Remain in Mexico” policy “inhumane” and said it causes “suffering and death” during a Sunday appearance on CBS News's Face the Nation. The Remain in Mexico policy, otherwise known as the Migrant Protection Protocols, require that certain asylum-seekers remain in Mexico while their claims are being adjudicated. The Trump administration, in an effort to alleviate the ongoing crisis at the border, announced an expansion of the program last month as part of a trade deal with Mexico.O'Rourke, who had just returned from visiting asylum-seekers in Ciudad Juarez who were then awaiting entry into the U.S., lambasted the Trump administration for not allowing the migrants to enter the country and remain until their respective hearings.“Me going over to Ciudad Juarez today, our — our sister city across the border from El Paso — to meet with asylum seekers who have traveled hundreds, in some cases thousands, of miles fleeing the deadliest countries on the face of the planet coming to this country trying to follow our asylum laws and through a program that effectively shuts them out of this country and our laws are forced to stay in Ciudad Juarez, where they are prey to criminal organizations, where they are penniless and where they are suffering and where too many feel like they are forced to try to cross in between our ports of entry,” O'Rourke told Margaret Brennan.“As we saw earlier this week, a picture of Oscar and Valeria, who died trying to do that from what the Matamoros to Brownsville,” he continued. “This inhumane policy is causing suffering and death, and I want to call attention to what we are doing. So going to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, and meeting with these asylum seekers is a great way for the American public to know what is being done in our name right now.”The comments came after acting homeland-security secretary Kevin McAleenan credited the expansion of the MPP with reducing the flow of asylum-seekers that has overwhelmed holding facilities in recent months.Migrant apprehensions fell to 87,000 in June after reaching 144,000 in May. There have been 600,000 apprehensions at the border this fiscal year, the highest number of any fiscal year in a decade.
