X-ray images show tools Khashoggi killers brought to Istanbul, Turkish paper claims

X-ray images show tools Khashoggi killers brought to Istanbul, Turkish paper claimsThe 15-strong Saudi kill team responsible for the murder of columnist Jamal Khashoggi carried luggage containing scissors, syringes and a stun gun, a pro-government Turkish paper has claimed. Sabah, a daily newspaper headquartered in Istanbul, published images on Tuesday purported to be airport X-ray scans of the team's bags as they left Istanbul for Riyadh on October 2, the day of Mr Khashoggi’s murder.  A number of tools and pieces of equipment can be seen, including walkie-talkies, a signal jammer and a pair of scissors.  The bags were loaded onto two private jets but police were not able to open them due to diplomatic immunity, according to the report. The paper, which is close to Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), is one of a number of outlets that has published a steady stream of leaks providing lurid details of Khashoggi’s death, a tactic seemingly designed to keep pressure on Riyadh and its allies. How the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi unfolded Mr Khashoggi, a regular contributor to the Washington Post, was killed in the kingdom’s Istanbul consulate while attempting to secure paperwork that would allow him to remarry.  According to Istanbul’s chief prosecutor, he was strangled and his body dismembered soon after entering the building.  Saudi officials initially denied all involvement but in the face of mounting international outrage admitted that the columnist had been killed as part of a “rogue” operation. The X-ray images were published as the New York Times reported that in an audio recording of the killing, one of the team responsible can be heard instructing a superior to "tell your boss" after the murder takes place, a suspected reference to Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi crown prince.  Khashoggi was once close to the royal family but went into self-imposed exile last year and had since been critical of the Crown Prince in his writing. Mr Erdogan described the tape as a “calamity” this week and said it shocked even a Saudi intelligence officer who listened to it, according to local media. The Turkish president added that orders for the killing came from the highest levels of the kingdom.

Russian company seeks to dismiss U.S. charges brought by Mueller

Russian company seeks to dismiss U.S. charges brought by MuellerBy Sarah N. Lynch WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A Russian company accused of helping fund a propaganda operation to sway the 2016 presidential election in Donald Trump’s favor asked a federal judge on Monday to dismiss charges brought by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, saying Mueller was unlawfully appointed and lacks prosecutorial authority. Concord Management and Consulting LLC, a firm that prosecutors say is controlled by a businessman dubbed by Russian media as “Putin’s cook,” argued in a filing in U.S. district court in Washington that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein violated the Appointments Clause of the U.S. Constitution when he hired Mueller in May 2017. Concord is one of three entities, along with 13 Russian individuals, indicted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office in February in an alleged criminal and espionage conspiracy to tamper with the U.S. race, boost Trump and disparage his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Someone brought an IRL World Cup meme to a soccer match

Someone brought an IRL World Cup meme to a soccer matchThe U.S., along with Canada and Mexico, will co-host the World Cup in 2026. This means it has a good chance of getting an automatic bid for the tournament, even if the team doesn't actually qualify. Fun loophole, right? And considering the U.S. men's team didn't qualify this year, it's a pretty exciting idea for American soccer fans. So exciting, in fact, that the idea has taken on a miniature meme life of its own, courtesy of Roll Safe. At a New York Red Bulls match on Wednesday (that is soccer, in case you were wondering), Joseph Mandil took this photo of the meme in the IRL wild. It later climbed to the top of r/sports on Reddit. The timing makes sense — the U.S.'s co-hosting gig had just been announced, so enthusiasm was running high. Still, a whole
sign? That is dedication. See y'all in 2026. WATCH: Artistic cycling is a real sport

Boy unearths legendary king Bluetooth's trove who brought Christianity to Denmark

Boy unearths legendary king Bluetooth's trove who brought Christianity to DenmarkA 13-year-old boy and an amateur archaeologist have unearthed a "significant" treasure trove in Germany which may have belonged to the legendary Danish king Harald Bluetooth who brought Christianity to Denmark. Rene Schoen and his student Luca Malaschnitschenko were looking for treasure using metal detectors in January on northern Ruegen island when they chanced upon what they initially thought was a worthless piece of aluminium. But upon closer inspection, they realised that it was a shimmering piece of silver, German media reported. A dig covering 400 square metres (4,300 square feet) that finally started over the weekend by the regional archaeology service has since uncovered a trove believed linked to the Danish king who reigned from around 958 to 986. Braided necklaces, pearls, brooches, a Thor's hammer, rings and up to 600 chipped coins were found, including more than 100 that date back to Bluetooth's era. The oldest coin found in the trove is a Damascus dirham dating to 714 while the most recent is a penny dating to 983. The find suggests that the treasure may have been buried in the late 980s – also the period when Bluetooth was known to have fled to Pomerania where he died in 987. "We have here the rare case of a discovery that appears to corroborate historical sources," said archaeologist Detlef Jantzen. Bluetooth is credited with unifying Denmark. The Viking-born king also turned his back on old Norse religion and introduced Christianity to the Nordic country. But he was forced to flee to Pomerania after a rebellion led by his son Sven Gabelbart. Bluetooth's lasting legacy is found today in smartphones and laptops – the wireless Bluetooth technology is named after him, and the symbol is composed of the two Runes spelling out his initials R. B.
