Israeli researchers say an inscription on an ancient ring discovered near Jerusalem may include the name of Pontius Pilate, the Roman official who Biblical accounts say sentenced Jesus to death. It would be a rare example still in existence of an inscription with the name of the man believed to have sent Jesus to his crucifixion. The researchers recently announced their analysis of the inscription on the ring — which was actually found some 50 years ago — in Israel Exploration Journal.

US judge blocks grizzly bear hunt near Yellowstone Park
A US judge on Thursday blocked the opening of grizzly bear hunts that were set to take place this weekend around Yellowstone National Park for the first time in 40 years. The ruling by US District Judge Dana Christensen, of Montana, marked a victory for wildlife advocates and Native American tribes that had sought to stop the controversial hunt scheduled to open in Idaho and Wyoming on Saturday. “This is a pretty major victory and we are nothing short of elated,” Melissa Thomasma, executive director of Wyoming Wildlife Advocates, told AFP.
