U.S. arrests counterterrorism analyst over leaks to journalists

U.S. arrests counterterrorism analyst over leaks to journalistsA counterterrorism analyst with the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency was arrested on Wednesday over charges he leaked classified materials about a foreign country’s weapons system to two journalists in 2018 and 2019, the U.S. Justice Department said in federal court filings on Wednesday. Information that 30-year-old Henry Kyle Frese passed to the journalists appeared in at least eight different news stories, the Justice Department alleged in an indictment unsealed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The two reporters to whom he leaked information were colleagues, and one of them was apparently romantically involved with Frese, the FBI said in court filings.

Tucker Carlson Mocks Fox Colleague Shep Smith for Defending Fox News Analyst

Tucker Carlson Mocks Fox Colleague Shep Smith for Defending Fox News AnalystHours after Fox News anchor Shepard Smith blasted frequent network guest and Trump ally Joe diGenova for calling Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano a “fool” during Tucker Carlson’s show, Carlson devoted a Wednesday night segment to mocking Smith’s outrage and defense of their mutual colleague.Inviting diGenova back on his program on Wednesday night, Carlson noted that the Trump-boosting lawyer’s insult of Napolitano caused “quite a firestorm,” reminding viewers that diGenova was responding to Napolitano’s assertion that Trump committed a crime with his phone call to the Ukrainian president. Carlson then took aim at Smith.“Apparently our daytime host who hosted Judge Napolitano was watching last night and was outraged by what you said and, quite ironically, called you partisan,” Carlson exclaimed in a rather jovial manner. The Fox News star went on to air a clip of Smith not-so-subtly calling out Carlson for letting a “partisan guest” attack Napolitano without being challenged. “Attacking our colleague, who is here to offer legal assessments on our air in our work home, is repugnant,” Smith added.“Repugnant!” Carlson mockingly shouted. “Not clear if that was you or me, but someone was repugnant!”Playing another clip of Napolitano reiterating his view that Trump broke the law by seeking election assistance from a foreign leader, the primetime Fox star insisted that “unlike maybe some dayside hosts, I’m not very partisan.”After accusing Smith of being partisan, the conservative talk show host opened the floor for diGenova to continue to rail against Napolitano’s analysis. “I was very truthful last night,” diGenova said.“So that’s why it doesn’t seem honest to me when a host, any host on any channel, including this one, pretends that the answer is obvious,” Carlson stated. “That there is ironclad consensus about what the answer is when there, in fact, isn’t, when it’s a subjective question. That’s not news, is it? That’s opinion.”diGenova, meanwhile, insisted he was absolutely right to claim Trump has not committed any crimes because he’s a former U.S. attorney before taking some additional shots at Napolitano.“He is entitled to feel that way,” the Trump-supporting lawyer declared. “He is a disappointed office seeker. He didn’t get the seat on the Supreme Court that he desperately wanted and he has been mad about it ever since. He showed it yesterday and he showed it so many times over the last year it’s pretty embarrassing actually for me. You know, I love the guy. God bless him.”“I do too,” Carlson replied. “We invited him on tonight by the way. It makes people cynical when you dress up news coverage, when you dress up partisanship as news coverage and pretend that your angry political opinions are news. You know, people tune out.”This wasn't the only time we saw friendly fire on Carlson's show Wednesday night. Earlier in the program, Fox News reporter Trace Gallagher said “most legal analysts, even on the liberal media outlets, acknowledge it would be very difficult to make a case that President Trump broke the law.” This would, however, contradict Napolitano's assessment, as well as a number of lawyers and legal analysts Smith also cited on Wednesday to show Trump broke the law.Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. CNN Analyst Blasts Kirsten Gillibrand’s ‘Craven’ and ‘Unfair’ Attack on Joe Biden During Debate

CNN Analyst Blasts Kirsten Gillibrand’s ‘Craven’ and ‘Unfair’ Attack on Joe Biden During DebateCNN political analyst Kirsten Powers took aim at Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) late Wednesday for criticizing former Vice President Joe Biden over a position he held in the early 1980s during the latest Democratic presidential primary debate, calling the New York senator’s attacks “craven.”Asked about the gender pay gap, Gillibrand had pivoted to Biden and suggested the former vice president believes women shouldn’t work outside the home by bringing up an op-ed he wrote in 1981 explaining his vote against a childcare tax credit. Biden, meanwhile, noted both his deceased first wife and current wife worked throughout their marriages while defending his vote. During CNN’s post-game coverage, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo said he felt Gillibrand’s attack missed its mark, questioning if she honestly believed that Biden “doesn’t want women to work.”“The attack seemed craven,” Powers declared. “It was unfair. The idea, first of all, 1981? What did any of us think in 1981? Is that what we’re really going back to. What’s important is what does Joe Biden think today.”She went on to say that we know what Biden currently thinks about women in the workforce because his wife has a PhD and works outside the home.“To me, I felt like it was a swing and a miss,” she stated, adding: “I feel like a lot of people are going to look at this and think, there are problems with Joe Biden, but like, this isn’t fair.”Read more at The Daily Beast.Get our top stories in your inbox every day. Trump committed obstruction of justice and should be indicted, says Fox News analyst in devastating attack

Trump committed obstruction of justice and should be indicted, says Fox News analyst in devastating attackFox News legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano has broken down allegations Donald Trump obstructed justice in a scathing video published this week. While the president’s favourite network often features hosts defending him against Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 election, Mr Napolitano asserted he was guilty of obstructing justice amid the years-long federal probe.“When the president asks his former adviser and my former colleague KT McFarland to write an untruthful letter to the file knowing the government would subpoena it, that’s obstruction of justice,” he said in the video. “When the president asks Cory Lewandowski, his former campaign manager, to get Mueller fired, that’s obstruction of justice.”Mr Napolitano continued breaking down the special counsel’s report, which noted at least 10 examples of possible obstruction on the part of the president. “When he dangled the pardon in front of Michael Cohen in order to keep Cohen from testifying against him, that’s obstruction of justice,” he said, before adding, “Why not charge him?”He also penned a damning Op-Ed this week that refuted Attorney General William Barr’s analysis of the report. Mr Barr has cleared the president of wrongdoing and said he would not be filing any charges against him. “On obstruction, Barr is wrong,” Mr Napolitano wrote. “The president's job is to enforce federal law.”“If he had ordered its violation to save innocent life or preserve human freedom, he would have a moral defence,” he continued. “But ordering obstruction to save himself from the consequences of his own behaviour is unlawful, defenceless and condemnable.”The comments arrived nearly a week after the Justice Department released a redacted version of Mr Mueller’s report, which found an extensive, multi-pronged operation conducted by Russian operatives throughout the 2016 election to sway voter attitudes against Hillary Clinton and in favour of Mr Trump. House Democrats have issued subpoenas for the full report, meanwhile, calling on Mr Barr and Mr Mueller to testify before committees investigating Russian interference and the president’s financial dealings.
