Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema sees Ted Cruz as an 'ally'

Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema sees Ted Cruz as an 'ally'Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) is not here for your congressional conventions. After winning a tight race in her now-certified swing state last year, Sinema has remained firmly between the aisles. She has voted to support several of President Trump's nominees, considers a few Republicans to be her closest pals in the Senate, and won't even discuss who she's supporting in her state's own Senate race next year, Politico reports in a profile published Tuesday.Sinema joined the Senate last year with fellow newcomer Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.). But despite that R next to his name, Cramer and Sinema are "close friends," Politico writes. Cramer is fully aware of their differences, referencing Sinema's flashy style when saying "I'm sort of a prude and she's very exotic." Sinema is also close with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who she considers an "as an ally atop the Commerce Committee's Aviation and Space subcommittee," Politico writes. And Sinema's convention busting isn't just limited to politics. She's currently looking to launch a spin class in the Senate gym, likely to help keep up her training for Ironman triathlons: She skipped a vote on the next Environmental Protection Agency head to compete in one just two months into her term.
